Meeting Programs
Kappa Alpha | 4/17/2003

Some alumni chapters have brief programs, typically no more than 20 minutes, at their luncheons.

Here are a few brief ideas for programs:

Undergraduate Chapter Program - If an undergraduate chapter is nearby, you might have the officers give an overview of the chapter. They could provide a report on the National Leadership Institute (NLI) and Convention, rush and its results, a presentation of the pledge class officers, or year-end reports during the spring. You might also want to hear reports from the House Corporation or the Alumni Advisory committee (an expanded version of the Alumni Advisor position) that works with the chapter.

Educational Programs - College administrators are usually very happy to speak to groups on subjects of admissions criteria, the university and fraternities, discussion on philosophies of education, or to report on the uses of institutional research. Colleges and universities in the area are a fine resource center from which to draw program materials.

Hometown Business/Industry - Many of the members in your chapter will have interesting positions of employment. Why not share it with others? Tours of plants (perhaps a video tour), films on the activities of the companies of the chapter members, can make interesting programs.

State of the Order - Arrange a program around the visit of a member of the Executive Council, the Province Commander, or a member of the Orders National Staff. Travel plans are generally known in advance, and by being in touch with the National Office you can learn of visits of these brothers.

Election Time - Politicians have a wide variety of subjects for clubs and organizations, whether they are running for office or not. You might invite another club or organization to join you for a program of this nature, since politicians like to speak to large groups.

Kappa Alpha Roses - Dont forget the ladies. A Ladies Night program will let the women know what the men do at their meeting. The support of the wives is a very important factor in the success of your chapter. If you have a speaker, make it one that will also be interesting to the ladies.
