Excellence on campus & beyond

However, they have special meaning and a strong tradition to the members of Omicron Chapter at the University of Texas.
Taking the first letter of each of these guiding words, you form the name of an honorary service and spirit organization known as the Silver Spurs. Founded in 1937, the Spurs are responsible for the caretaking and transportation of the school’s mascot, Bevo, and for philanthropic events around the city of Austin.
The organization is a group of student leaders with great pride in their school. They exhibit excellence on campus and beyond.
Omicron Chapter consistently has four members of each pledge class in the Silver Spurs. They maintain that number be ensuring that the members selected will represent the chapter and the university with pride and dedication.
“It is such an honor to be selected to represent KA Omicron Chapter and the university at this level,” said Tim Weaver, Omicron member, Silver Spurs selection committee chairman and rowel trainer.
Including Tim, Omicron members hold three of the nine officer positions in the Silver Spurs: Tommy Servos (Sr.), Bevo trainer, and Justin McMinn (Sr.) is sweetheart chairman.
Many Omicron alumni who were also Silver Spurs during their undergraduate days continue to be very involved in this legendary organization. Frank Maresh (Omicron ‘58), KAOEF president, is a cherished asset to both Omicron Chapter and the Silver Spurs. Also, Lowell Lebermann (Omicron ‘58), a faithful contributor to Omicron Chapter was elected into the Silver Spurs Hall of Fame last fall along with legendary UT coach Darrell Royal.
