He began work in early April and will begin as editor with the summer issue of the Journal.
Scott’s first exposure to Kappa Alpha came from his father, Mike Rowson (Alpha Kappa -Missouri ’69), an alumnus and retired Navy pilot now teaching junior high math. When Scott decided to attend the University of Missouri, checking out KA came naturally.
“My parents lived in the same town as the college, but I was still looking for a home away from home. It may sound corny, but KA just felt right,” he said. Scott became the first member of the Fall 1995 Alpha Kappa pledge class.
“Coming into pledgeship, I was struck by how different all my new brothers were from each other. We had guys straight off the farm and we had big-city kids . . . it was a really interesting mix,” Scott recalled. He remembers college as a blur of classes, philanthropy events, Greek competitions, and parties. But Scott said the most important things he took away from college were his wife, Amber, and a lifelong bond to KA brothers everywhere.
Since graduating with a degree in Political Science in 1999, Scott has never strayed far from the communications field. He spent his first four years out of school handling media relations for non-profit advocacy groups and then accepted a job as a Congressional press secretary on Capitol Hill. Working for a Member of Congress, Scott said, meant more than just the pressure-cooker environment of Washington, D.C., politics, it was a challenge he’d always looked forward to.
However, after a new job for Amber and the birth of their first child last year, son Beckett, Scott decided to leave politics and become a full-time dad. The move came pretty naturally, and Scott jokes today that “a lot of the time it seems the Hill’s full of whining infants anyway, so I felt right at home. "
